Um…. This was not great. My order consisted of the lamb egusi soup with plantain fufu. Jollef rice and beef patty. Let’s start with the egusi soup…. The smell reminds me of chitlins(pig intestines) without the vinegar. And it tasted like it smelled. I couldn’t taste any of the spices. The flavor was very off putting. After 2 bites I threw it away. Sadly I didn’t even try the meat. The fufu was fine. The jollef rice was the only delicious thing I had albeit a bit dry. The beef patty was dry and hard and the beef the texture of saw dust with no flavor or seasoning whatsoever. The pastry was so thick and dry. Not flaky at all. Needles to say all I ate was the rice. I probably won’t be back. Very disappointed.

As someone who’s Ga, I have to be honest. The grilled chicken was either too salty or not fully cooked. The jollof was overly salty and had way too many spices. The kenkey didn’t come with real red pepper, and the waakye just wasn’t good. If you’re looking for authentic Ghanaian waakye in the 757, I highly recommend Metro Mart Int’l African Restaurant. In my opinion, it’s the best place to get real Ghanaian waakye. Thank me later! One tip: if you order through their app, choose pickup instead of delivery. Delivery can take around an hour and a half. I’m originally from Northern Virginia, where we’re spoiled with a lot of authentic Ghanaian restaurants, so my standards are high. It’s honestly disappointing that Hampton Roads (757) doesn’t have many truly authentic Ghanaian options. For me, Metro Mart is the closest thing to the real taste of home

Went here on a Saturday night because I was craving something filling and flavorful; the place thing that came to mind was Yendidi. I tried them before a long time ago and haven’t had them recently, so I was really anticipating having them again. The ordering process was quick and easy, we used their computer screens to put our orders in. Not too bad of a wait for our food. The staff were very communicative on our food status while we were waiting, which I appreciated. My order included an Afro pie (7.5/10), I absolutely loved the sauce it came with, but I do feel like the meat inside and pie itself was dry. Sautéed green beans (10/10). Chicken Egusi soup w/ pounded yam (9/10), the flavors were amazing! I loved how savory it was; however, I do believe they switched the spice level of my soup with my sisters because I asked for none-little spice, yet my soup tasted like it was their highest spice level !! I had to keep taking breaks while eating because while it did taste really good, it was also so so spicy! I really did enjoy my meal, despite receiving the wrong spice level in my Egusi soup. I will def return again soon. My overall rate of experience : 8.6/10

I absolutely love this place. I will drive all the way here just for their food instead of places closer to me. I ordered the okra soup with cow foot, medium spicy with fufu. It came with another veggie side so I chose their version of collard greens that were seasoned with old bay. I also ordered another side of plantain fufu and a Bissap (hibiscus) drink. The soup was so good! The only issue is that the spicy was dried pepper seasoning clumped in the middle. So, some of my bites were spicy and others had no spice. I ordered it to go for ease, but ate some of it there before meeting friends for ladies night. I’m never disappointed with the food here. Something I noticed was that they had these plantains that I had before from Ghana, so I was excited to find them here locally. The young lady behind the counter/one of the cooks actually surprised me because she was Jamaican and spoke patois. We laughed because I’m like “Ariana, what are you doing here?” (Nicki voice) lol. She was mostly talking on the phone and didn’t say much to me but no issues there. The Norfolk restaurant is small inside with maybe 3 tables total. The other side of the restaurant is a small grocery store.

First time ordering here. I initially place an order for Egusi Stew protein was lamb and Fufu oh and a side of cabbage. I called my order in and by the time I got there the cashier informed me that they didn’t have lamb so I went with the beef. I had about another 20 min wait and decided to eat inside because hey I was on a quick lunch break. There were only two table so I had to make it work. The stew was tasty but the beef was pretty tuff. The cabbage was sweet like sugar was added, that’s a solid no for me. Overall I’d eat here again. I’d go back just to try the lamb. 🥰
